Strength in Numbers

No matter how often you run, or how far you run, you are a runner. I am proud to call myself a runner. We are a strong group of people. We stand together to cheer each other on in good times, and we band together in support in the bad times.

Well, this is definitely one of the bad times. I posted yesterday briefly about the Boston Marathon yesterday, but I certainly didn’t do it justice.

I don’t want to make a post about how horrible the event was, rather I would like to highlight the resilience of those involved.

As a group, runners are pretty kick-ass. We run in all conditions, in all weather. We push through incredible pain and come out of it stronger every time. This is what is going to happen after Boston. We are a strong bunch. I certainly wouldn’t mess with us. Anyone who messes with people who run 13.1 and 26.2 miles FOR FUN clearly didn’t know what they were going up against.

Runners are warriors at heart, we are fighters. We are a family that bands together to help when things get tough. So if the person behind the Boston bombings thought they were going to tear us down by hurting out fellow runners and their families, they were sadly mistaken.

The outpouring of love and support I have seen on the news and social media has been overwhelming. There has been a call to wear your race shirts today in support of Boston, and an overwhelming number of runners are doing so today. I know I will be rocking my race gear today. And it isn’t just a show of support. It is showing the people who did this that we will not be pushed around. That if you mess with one runner, you mess with all of us.  Whoever you are, you hurt our family and we will not sit back and leave them to feel alone.

So to all my fellow runners out there. We are strong! This will not break us. Keep those involved in yesterday’s tragedy in your thoughts and prayers. Hug your loved ones a little tighter today. But do not let this break you. Runners are the best group of people I know and it is inspiring to be a part of it.

We are Strong individually, but together we are Unbreakable.
